For over 3 years, I have been waiting on God to take away my sickness. Doesn’t the Bible say that if I ask for something that I will receive it? So, it is hard not to become impatient when the wait continues. Simply put, waiting on God is not easy. In fact, most of the time it can become downright discouraging.

Throughout my journey of faith with Chronic Illness, I have learned many lessons. The hardest one is that God doesn’t work on my timing. God’s timing is always perfect. My human body isn’t capable of seeing the big picture of how a struggle can be used for God’s greater purpose.

The world we live in is an instant gratification society. We want things right now! But sometimes, God requires us to wait because He sees a greater need in the lessons learned during the waiting period. What do we need while we wait?

It is easy to listen to the loud voices around you rather than the quiet whisper of the Holy Spirit. Click to Tweet

5 Things You Need While Waiting on God

1. Faith

It takes faith to trust in God because trusting Him doesn’t mean I am going to get what I want when I want it. Trusting Him means that I believe God will provide when the timing is right. Having faith while waiting on God means you believe there is nothing God can’t do!

2. Patience

Psalm 37 says not to fret or be anxious three times. If you believe God is who He says He is then you also believe God will show you the right time to do something. God’s timing is always perfect. You will never waste time waiting on God

3. Courage

Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

Joshua 1:9

It takes courage to say no to offers that are not in God’s timing. Sometimes things that come your way are not from God, even if they seem to be good things. If something is not in God’s will you must say no. Many things may look like God’s Will, but God will show you His timing.

4. Strength

It takes strength to decide not to move until God says move. The Bible tells us that our strength comes from God alone. We have to seek God for the strength to stand firm as we are waiting on God.

5. Determination

It takes determination to stand for what God wants you to wait for. There may be people that try to dissuade you as you wait. It is easy to listen to the loud voices around you rather than the quiet whisper of the Holy Spirit. Be determined to obey God and leave the consequences to Him.

The next time you find that God is asking you to wait, you will need to gather these tools. The Bible is a great place to find what God requires of us while we are waiting on Him. Do you think you are ready the next time you find yourself waiting on God?

Thank you for sharing! Waiting on the Lord is not always easy. It takes indeed a lot of faith and patience to keep waiting and never doubt. Mark 11:24 is a good verse to keep in mind as well: ‘Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them’.

Waiting is really hard. While waiting for something for years, God reminds me that those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength and mount up with wings as eagles.
