Sometimes we think we’re waiting on God when He’s actually waiting on us. When we face problems, trials, or adversity, God already has a plan to get a victory. His plan most likely involves action on our part. God uses Shamgar to show us how to find success even in hard circumstances.
And after him was Shamgar the son of Anath, which slew of the Philistines six hundred men with an ox goad: and he also delivered Israel.JUDGES 3:31
Shamgar was a farmer who saved an entire nation with an oxgoad. An ox goad is a wood pole with a sharp point on the end to prod an ox to keep them plowing the field when they don’t want to work anymore. He took this simple farm tool and he killed the 600 Philistines. He fought against great odds and won. God used Shamgar to bring a mighty victory.
3 Secrets of Success
1. Shamgar Started Where He Was
Shamgar was not in a powerful position, he was a simple farmer. He didn’t wait to reach a place of power to get started.
For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoiceZECHARIAH 4:10
Don’t wait on that big break or for that big door to open to get started. Instead, start where you are right now. Stop thinking that you need that better job or that better circumstance for you to get started.
2. Shamgar Used What He Had
Shamgar not only started where he was, he used the weapon that he had. His resources were very limited and most people would have overlooked the oxgoad Shamgar had. They would have thought that he didn’t have anything that could win the battle against the 600. But because he took what he had; God used it to defeat the Philistines.
Don’t sit around and say that you need this thing or that thing to get started. God has given you a talent or an ability to meet what you are facing. Use what is in your hand right now! The miracle is not in what you don’t have but in what you have right now, in your hand.
3. Shamgar Did What He Could
Shamgar did what he could, and he did not give up. He fought against the worst odds and God picked up where Shamgar left off.
What can you do?
Have you prayed about your situation? It is the most powerful thing you can do. The act of praying will prompt God to send down the resources you need.
Focus is the beginning of energy. Get focused on the vision of what on what God wants to be accomplished. God doesn’t want you to look back but to stay focused on Him and His Word.
3. Don’t give up
Successful people begin their success where others let go and give up. No matter what happens do not give up.
God wants to use us in the same way—right now, just like we are, and right where we are. What do we have that God can use? Are we being obedient to God’s direction in our lives? Are we waiting for God to do something when it’s actually uys who needs to take action?
