We are going to start doing a Bible Verse of the Day on Thursday. There will still be an explanation of the verse but it will be a little shorter. We also hope that the ending question will provoke some conversation in the comments. Feel free to share the verse image on your social media and use them as a reminder to others about God’s love for us.
Verse of the Day: Joshua 24:15If serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve.... As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.' -Joshua 24:15 Click To Tweet
What is happening?
Joshua just called all of the leaders, elders and judges of Israel so they could present themselves to God. Joshua begins to list all of the things that God has done for Israel and they were still worshipping false gods and idols. They are being commanded to stop worshipping the idols of their ancestors and to follow only God.
In Joshua 24:14, Joshua is telling the leaders what God expects them to do. God wants them to worship only Him, the God that led them out of bondage. Joshua 24:15 then gives them a choice. This shows that God doesn’t want them to follow Him because they have been commanded to.
Then Joshua makes a declaration at the end of Joshua 24:15 about what choice his family would be making. He stated that even given the choice not to, that “…as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”
Have You Made a Proclamation?
Joshua made a definitive stand about his intentions to serve God. There was not doubt in his mind what the choice would be for him and his family.
We are given this same choice today. God has given us free will to follow Him or not to. In Joshua 24:15, Joshua made his proclamation. Have you made a proclamation?
