The translation for Emmanuel is God with us. This name is the complete explanation of why Jesus’ birth was important. God came to be with us…on Earth…as a man. That thought is quite staggering and it is the essence of what our faith is. As Christians, we believe that God is still with us.
The Importance of Emmanuel
God with us, Emmanuel, is a promise from God. It is through Jesus’ birth that God will always be with us. It is wonderful to know that no matter what we face in life that we are not alone.
he virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Emmanuel ~Matthew 1:23
The promise of Emmanuel is the greatest promise in the Bible. Yes, it is tied to the birth of Jesus but it is also tied to the death and resurrection. This promise means that God will always be with us but that He will also return to take us back to Him. Because God became a man, we will always have the opportunity to have God in our lives.
What is even more amazing is reading the Old Testament of Isaiah and coming across verses that are clearly referencing Jesus. Isaiah 7:14 says, “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Emmanuel.”. Prophecies like this one, sheds light on God’s plan to come to be with us.
God with us – every day, in every moment and at every crossroads in life. Through every heartbreak and every joy filled time…Emmanuel!
