The word Advent means “to come toward, to draw near or to approach.” and today marks the third Sunday in the Advent. Today the candle of Love will be lit on the advent wreath. A new candle will be lit each Sunday. Some people put a final candle in the center to represent Christ that is lit on Christmas Day.
The Candle of Love
The third candle of the advent wreath is the candle of love. This candle represents the love that God has for us. God sent His Son to pay for our transgressions. God loves us so much that He gave His Son so that we could live with Him forever.
It is impossible to celebrate the birth of Christ without acknowledging His purpose. This beautiful Savior came to earth to save us from our sins. The purpose for His birth was to be a Lamb of sacrifice. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. ~ John 3:16
One way to celebrate this as a family is for everyone to tell of something that God has done that shows His love for us. You may have to help the little ones but it is a great way to show them how to recognize God’s love.
Thank you for loving us no matter what we may do wrong. Thank you for sending Your Son so that we can be forgiven of our sins and for making such and enormous sacrifice. Help me to always be able to see the ways that you show your love for me as I go throughout my day.
Also help me to remember the purpose behind the birth of Jesus. It is so easy to get busy and to forget that what started as a little baby died on a cross for my sins.
In these things I pray, Amen
